Like most things you do in life, if you can learn from someone who already has the knowledge, then you will find you can learn a lot quicker than from studying from books or trying to teach yourself. This is ever more so in fishing. Learning from experienced Anglers is a great way to learn what works and what doesn’t work. You’ll also find that the experienced Anglers love to share tips and stories for free and will gladly help you out. Bass fishing guides are especially useful when you are not sure of particular water that you haven’t fished before.
They will also teach you some great tips on techniques and bait. One of the first things will be to start getting used to how to fish with jigs or lures. It isn’t just a case of casting into the water and sitting back and doing nothing! You must work the lure once you have casted out to make it attract the bass that mistake it for a fish in trouble. This is done by winding in a certain paces, start slow, then reel in quick, then slow again and so on. Once you’ve mastered that technique, it will be time to choose your spot.
Most bass fishing guides will have their own favorite spot on the water. As it is their job to help you catch the most fish, they will gladly take you there. In warm seasons, you will probably position the boat in shallow water and cast your rods into the deeper water. In the colder weather, you’ll do the opposite. The guide may even recommend fishing from the shore as not to spook the fish with the boat. This can be a great way to ambush unsuspecting bass as they trawl the shoreline waiting for their next catch.
